And here are some pictures from last year's mini sessions :)

The Barranon Family

Cyndi and Michael are friends of mine from high school.  Cyndi and I had a lot of classes together, and she was really smart, so I always knew I could go to her with my questions :).  I specifically remember her being really great at physics.  Why on earth would they offer that class to high schoolers?! I don't believe I was capable of making sense of that subject until I was at least 20. In general, math, chemistry, and biology came pretty easy to me.  They just all made sense and I was really interested in it. I figured I could handle AP Physics as a junior, because, you know, it was a science. That class gave me a swift kick in the rear. I'm LUCKY I received a C in that class, but at the time, as a straight A student, I was beside myself.  Cyndi did better than me in that class, but sitting next to her helped me get through it. She is kind, logical, and we shared the same humor.

It was so fun to catch up with her and Michael, and also to meet their new little one, Michael. He is such an expressive baby, my goodness!  I got more laughs going through all the pictures and seeing all the looks and smiles he had! He is a joy, and I know he brings so much happiness to his parents.

I never made a birth plan

As Steve, Bethany and I walked among the avocado trees, I asked them if they were ready.  They looked at each other, laughed and said “I guess so?” I loved their response, because it reminded me a lot of how I felt when I was weeks away from having my son. I thought I was ready, but ready for what? Everyone told us, Oh, your life is going to change!! But what does that MEAN?! I had no idea. And really, I could set up as many hypothetical scenarios in my head as I wanted, but I had no clue until I experienced it for myself.

I never made a birth plan. What's funny is that I am a rule follower, a cross-off-my-to-do-list type of girl, and yet, I wasn't remotely concerned with having a step-by-step plan of how I wanted my labor to go.  I guess I felt that voicing my wants and desires on how I envisioned my delivery to go was like setting expectations for myself on something that I had never experienced before.

And we all know how that goes… the disappointment that comes with not meeting expectations. I knew that for me, the disappointment that would have came with those un-met expectations  would have held me back from fully experiencing my son's birth. From experiencing the JOY when my son was first placed on my chest. From being completely wrapped up in him and all the sounds he made. From recognizing that his eyes are his daddy's, and his chubby cheeks are mine. From understanding the depth of my love for this little tiny human, who I was now responsible for. From getting a glimpse into how much He loves me.

I didn't want to be let down that I couldn't handle the pain on my own, because I wanted to do it all natural.  I didn't want to go in to my labor knowing that I was going to get an epidural as soon as I could, because I had never done it before. I didn't know what I could handle, and I wanted to give myself the option.

Mostly, I wanted the focus to be on my healthy baby boy, not on my own ability. Because, lets face it, I will disappoint myself. I found that when I turned my focus onto the GIFT that was given to me, I realized that God surpassed ALL of my expectations with my boy.

PS. These last two photos are special to me.  I had asked Bethany to change her position slightly by placing her hands right on top of her belly.  Right as she put them there, baby girl kicked.  It's like she was telling her mom Hi!

The Carpenter/Werland/Delavar Family

When I was little, we lived in San Diego. My mom worked during the day and my dad would work graveyards so he could watch my sister, Jen and me during the day, and not have to pay for daycare.  He also watched my cousin Marissa.  We are 5 months apart, and were inseparable.  I have the fondest memories of spending time at her house, being the older cousin to her sister Alicia, and playing with all the neighborhood kids on Appleton St.  My cousin always had something fun planned. She is the adventurous one.  She likes to try new foods, and go to different places. I was always more cautious.  That's why I love her so much. I wanted to be around her all the time, and so it forced me to try new things also.  I'm sure I was annoying, but she never let on if I was :)

My cousin has moved a few different places, and now lives with her husband in New Mexico.  They came out for Christmas, and I was honored to be able to take some pictures of my family :) They are a big, blended family now, with lots of love.

The whole gang!

Marissa & Chris

They love their mama!
Brandon, Justin and Devin
My Uncle Mike and his girls!

I don't know who made them laugh, but thank you!! They both had the same response, and I caught it!

My pretty cousin Alicia with her boyfriend Connor.

Pretty sisters! Love them!

The Wood Family

I met Tom, Sarah and little Harper down at Shelter Island just before Christmas.  I know its probably hard to remember how cold the nights were around Christmas time with how HOT and dry its been lately! It started off really nice, but then got really cold! Sarah brought the cutest little fur hat, hoping Harper would keep it on for a few pictures before she took it off, but it ended up being so cold that she wanted to keep it on for most of the session! Poor little thing! She was so cute and warmed up pretty quickly to me.  I love it when that happens!

Harper loves her wagon! She was perfectly happy riding around in it, rather than wanting to get out and run around like most toddlers I know.

I'm in LOVE with how this one turned out! Definitely one of my all time favorites!!

How sweet is she?!

Thank you Wood family!  I had the best time getting to know you guys!

The Keller Family

Howdy! Happy New Year!  It was quiet on here over the Christmas holiday... I took a little break to spend some time with my family, and work on the house (more on that later).  It was nice, relaxing, and busy all at the same time.  Now, onto some pictures!

Meet the Keller's! Mike and Miranda are two of the sweetest people I have ever met.  And not in obnoxious, there's-no-way-your-life-is-that-great kind of way.  You just want to be around them!! We got together just before Christmas at Discovery Lake to get some picture of their growing family. Logan is full of energy (just like my William).  I had such a great time chatting on parenthood and catching up with them :)

 Love those open mouth kisses!

 How cute is Logan??!

The Petty Family

It's a little bit intimidating to photograph another photographer... okay, its a LOT intimidating.. especially when said photographer is super talented.  This is Jessi (of Mr. and Mrs. Wedding Photography) and her cute family.  Add onto the pressure that she hasn't had family pictures done since Ryan was an infant!!!! They were great.  Being a photographer, she knew just how to pose, how to change up poses with different ideas, all without me saying anything.  And, they had fun together. After the first few shots, all the pressure dissipated, and I had fun too.

 Jessi, you are so beautiful!
 Her boys love her :)

 Rawrrr! So pretty!

Poor Josh! He got the brunt of that ball of leaves.  He was a good sport :)

My favorite!

Brianna & Easton

I just adore this session.  The colors turned out SO beautiful, and I love the feel of each photo. How cute are these kids?! Brianna was a little model, and was so easy to photograph! Easton had lots of energy, so I pretty much just followed him around and snapped away.  Those always end up being my favorites - the ones where you have no idea how they are going to turn out, and when I got home and looked at them on my computer I was so so excited!

The Thielen Family

I love this family! This session was a long time coming, and I'm so glad everything worked out a few weeks ago to finally take pictures of them. They were fun and ready to do just about anything for a good picture.  Not to mention, Kathryn brought all kinds of goodies to wear :) I know Burt, Cole, Tarah and Brooke all appreciated it. They all get along so well, so even when things were goofy, it wasn't awkward.  It was so refreshing! Spending just a short amount of time with them, you can see how much they love each other and enjoy each other.  THAT makes for some GREAT pictures!

Love this one!! The light is amazing!

 How cute are they?!
This one cracks me up!! The kids look thrilled, right?

 Brooke, you are GORGEOUS!!

The Wise Family

Kristen and Adam are good friends of ours.  Their boys are full of energy and fun, yet SO well behaved and polite.  And, they are about to welcome in a sweet little girl next year! I can't wait!! Those little boys are going to love her fiercely, and I am excited to watch that bond grow.  There are so many good ones from this session.  We had a GREAT time! Logan and Preston were awesome and had fun with me.  Love you guys!

The Ramirez Family

Elena is one of the prettiest little girls I have ever seen.  She is the perfect mix of sweet and sassy. And you can tell where she gets it from! The scenery was great and the light was perfect, which made for some beautiful pictures. Enjoy!

 How sweet is she?!
Jessica and Jimmy - I can't wait for January!

The Ogden's

Alright! Blogging two days in a row! I am determined to get caught up.

Landon was the BEST. Facial expressions for days, but also very mindful of me.  This little family was a dream!  Can't wait to meet the new little one early next year!

The Duron's

Remember when I mentioned the Christmas Special a couple months back? Well, it took place last weekend.  I was a little nervous with the timing.. only 20 minutes for each family, but it turned out really great! I liked the challenge and it forced me to be really specific and vocal in directing each family into the poses I wanted. I am really pleased with how it turned out, and so SO thankful and humbled by the sweet families that had me take their pictures!

First up, Emilio and Devinn.  I went to school with Emilio and most of his brothers, and played co-ed softball for a couple of years together (I'm praying for you Emilio...).  Since most of the sessions I'm doing right now are for the purpose of Christmas cards, I wont ruin the anticipation by sharing them, but here are some of my favorites with them and their pups.  Thanks again, Duron fam!

The Allen's

I got to spend some time with this beautiful family last week.  I knew it was going to be amazing with Dave asked Emma if she wanted to "ghost ride the whip" referring to the stroller! HA!

Some of my favorites...

Seriously! How gorgeous is this mama!?

Loving on her baby sister.

And, because I feel weird not posting any pictures, here's a few from a quick family session I did for my aunt and uncle and their family.

The Rose Family

It was HOT the day I met up with Ryan, Nicole and little Mary.  They were such good sports! Mary is just a month older than my boy, so it was fun to get a glimpse of what a one-year-old is like.

Mom and Dad are baseball enthusiasts, so it was only fitting that Mary be decked out in her Padres gear.  They also brought along her police car, which, as you can tell, she LOVES.  Can I just say that I love it when families bring things that are special to them for a shoot?! It adds so much more the experience.

Ryan and Nicole - thanks for meeting me, even though we all left a sweaty mess!  Your family of three is the sweetest!

I thought bringing popsicles would be refreshing for Mary (heck, all of us!).  Mary was not a fan! I think it was too cold. I've never seen a child turn down a popsicle! Hilarious!

Making her daddy proud!
She was so excited to play with the ball!  I loved her expression, even with the ball blocking her face.

These next three crack me up. She wanted nothing to do with anyone. Only the fishy crackers. Thank the Lord for fishy crackers!

The Heimbigner Family

I was blessed to spend sometime with this great family a few weeks ago.  With all the family in town, we headed down to the Oceanside pier, and had some fun! I get to photograph some of the best families! I feel like I've said this before, but this family just has fun together.

A fun family + beautiful light + the ocean = some great pictures. These are some of my favorite. Enjoy!

The Moss Family

I came from a family of three girls, so I know, first hand, what a blessing we all were to my parents :) Dave and Leigh have four.  Four times the sweetness. Four times the cuddles and Eskimo kisses.  Four times the sass!

I had the pleasure of taking some photos of this family last week.  They were so much fun!  Hailey and Talia are gorgeous. I mean, seriously, look at their eyes! Lillian was fun and silly, and was far more interested in the sand toys someone left behind.  Little Amelia was content to be held by her mom and dad, and to watch her sisters play. It's so incredibly obvious how much this family loves each other.

I am IN LOVE with this photo.  This is how they were the entire time.  I'm sure they get annoyed with each other from time to time, but these sisters love each other!

We were finishing up some pictures of the girls when we turned around and found Dave playing with these trucks.  He had made a little track in the sand.  We had to laugh!  All these girls running around, he had to do boy stuff for a little.

Aaron & Erica + 2

I remember the moment shortly after my son was born when I realized how different my life would forever be. We had been at home for a couple of days, I had a touch of the "baby blues," and darn-it! I couldn't run and take refuge at Target when I wanted to get out of the house!!!  They (whoever 'they' are) say while you're pregnant that "your whole life is about to change!!" And, I knew that was true, but I had no idea how different it was going to be until I experienced the change myself. I have been around a lot of babies, so I felt a little more ready.  It was a huge change, and that was only with ONE baby.

Aaron and Erica welcomed TWO little babies into their family a little over weeks ago.  As I am a newbie photographer, I reached out to her and asked if I could document their new life at home, as a family of four.  She kindly accepted. Erica and I were friends and fellow cheerleaders in high school (SMHS, what UP?!!).  She went on to become a successful hair stylist, married her high school sweetheart, trained hard as a fitness competitor, and never left good ol' North County.  When she announced she was expecting, she kept all of us facebook-stalkers in the know by documenting her pregnancy in one of the most beautiful ways I have seen.  She shared her weight gains, her measurements, and even posted pics of her bare belly. And all along the way, I felt like I was there with her. Basically, she rocks. She has embraced motherhood fully and I felt honored to witness just a glimpse of it.

Aaron & Erica - thanks a MILLION for allowing me into your home to document your sweet little family (Hi Jameson and Chloe!!).  I am so grateful for your openness and trust.  I hope you enjoy these pictures of your new, full, life.  It is a beautiful one!  - MANY thanks, Christina

Jameson only has eyes for his mama!
Love that sweet little hand saying hello!

I love these two photos of Aaron above. Especially that sweet little smile he has on his face when looking at his daughter.
